Iran marking run-up to anniversary of Islamic Revolution

The '10-Day Dawn' celebrations have kicked off in Iran, marking the run-up to the 42nd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the US-backed Pahlavi regime.

Sunday, 12th of Bahman (31 January 2021), is the beginning of the '10-Day Dawn' of Iran's Islamic Revolution, which millions of Iranians celebrate every year.

According to Press TV, the annual festivities started on Sunday morning February 1, 1979, commemorating the moment the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (RA), set foot on the soil of Iran amidst the enthusiastic welcome of the people after fifteen years of exile.

Ten days after his arrival in Iran, on February 11, 1979, Iran's Islamic Revolution embraced victory. It is for this reason that from the 12th to the 22nd of Bahman (January 31- February 10), it has been named '10-Day Dawn.'

Every year, celebrations and special ceremonies of the victory of the Islamic Revolution are held during these 10 days. However, this year due to the pandemic, the ceremony will be held in a different way.

With the beginning of the ten-day Fajr holidays and the 42nd anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s return from exile, leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei visited the Mausoleum of Imam Khomeini (RA) in Tehran on Sunday to pay homage to the memory of the founder of the Islamic Revolution by performing the Salat (prayer) and reciting Quran.

Imam Khamenei also visited Golzar-e Shohada (martyrs graveyard) afterward to pay tribute to the pure souls of the defenders of Islam and Iran.
