Iran’s mesmerizing wetlands in picture

Every year on February 2, World Wetlands Day is celebrated to raise global awareness about the value of wetlands.

The UNESCO World Heritage Convention is working constantly to help protect wetland systems around the world. Wetlands are areas that are flooded with water either permanently or seasonally. Preserving the wetlands results in saving different species of birds and aquatic plants and animals.

Iran is home to a good number of wetlands including Estil Lagoon, Anzali Lagoon, Shadegan Ponds, and Gavkhouni Wetland.
