Iranian ‘Elephantbird’ to vie in Canada

Iranian short film ‘Elephantbird’ has been selected to compete at the 7th edition of the Gbeck Future Film Festival in Canada.

Written and directed by Amir-Masoud Soheili, the 15-minute flick is an adaptation of an Afghan short story.

The film is about an old Afghan man who wishes to give his elephant-bird (turkey) to his grandchild, but this simple wish is hard to realize.

‘Elephantbird’ has been presented at several international film festivals, including the AVANCA - International Meeting of Cinema, TV, Video, and Multimedia in Portugal, the Batumi International Art-House Film Festival in Georgia, and the Sedicicorto International Film Festival in Italy, where it won the Special Jury Award.

The short flick has also received honors such as the Best Ensemble Cast award at the Big Bear Film Summit in the US, the Best Short Narrative Film award at the Accra Indie filmfest in Ghana, and an award at the R.E.D. International Film Festival of Norway.

According to GBECKFF website, “It is a competition of original films created by filmmakers from around the world, designed to discover and support young filmmakers. The short list for the 7th GbeckFF will be released in February 2021, and the winners will be announced in April.
