Iranian artist introduces new stringed instrument

Iranian artist Mohammad-Reza Ildar-Jaleh has introduced an innovative musical instrument named ‘Moraj’ at the 12th Woodwork Exhibition at Tehran’s Niavaran Culture Center.

‘Moraj’, which has taken its name from the first letters of the artist’s full name, is a three-string instrument like a fiddle, played with the fingers.

Ildar-Jaleh, who is an expert in making the tar and setar, two Iranian stringed instruments, said in his interview that he has been spending years repairing musical instruments, adding, “I have repaired over 4000 instruments and have good knowledge about them, and I have tried to remove the deficiencies and other problems I have faced in the instruments in my new moraj.”

He said that he loves his country and wants to introduce Iran and Iranian culture to the world with new sounds through new instruments.
