Taqi Amirani’s film, a joint production of Iran, the UK and the US, has been selected as an eligible candidate to run for the Best Picture award at this year’s edition of the Oscars.
Oscar-winning film editor Walter Murch and Amirani have jointly written the scenario for the doc that inspects hidden roots of the 1953 Coup d'état in Iran.
The 2019 doc features the story of Operation Ajax, staged by the CIA in Iran to overthrow Iranian prime minister of the time, Mohammad Mosaddeq.
Murch, Amirani, and Ralph Fiennies have appeared in the flick.
The rest of the film’s figures, such as Winston Churchil, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Allen Dulles, have come from the archival footages remaining from the past.
The 93rd edition of the Oscars, which has mostly held in February, is postponed to April 25 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
