Grand River to screen ‘The Recess’

The Grand River Film Festival in Canada is set to screen Iranian short film ‘The Recess’.

‘The Recess’, written and directed by Navid Nikkhah-Azad, will participate at the 13th edition of the Canadian event.

The film is about a 17-year-old girl named Sahar who runs away from school to watch a football match of her beloved team.

Sahar, along with three of her friends, plans to leave the school during the break in order to watch the match between Esteghlal FC and Al Ain FC at Azadi Sports Complex.

The film’s cast members include Mozhan Kordi, Reyhaneh Nabiyan, Niloufar Shokouhinia, and Ghazal Khalili.

‘The Recess’ has so far participated at several prominent festivals around the world and managed to grab awards such as the best short film award at the 18th Oxford Film Festival (OFF) in the US.

The Grand River Film Festival is “a not-for-profit, volunteer-run arts and culture group dedicated to bringing the best independent cinema from Canada and around the world to the Region of Waterloo.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s edition of the festival will take place online on May 5-8.
