Directed by Ario Motevaqqe, the Iranian flick won the Best Non-European Independent Dramatic Short Award at the 16th edition of the French event.
‘Weekend’ is about two families who go on a picnic in a nearby park. After finishing their meal, it turns out that they are there for something else.
Fardin Qaderi, Mostafa Latifikhah, Sahar Taherkhani, Maliheh Esfandiyari, and Bardia Shariati are on the cast list of the short film.
‘Weekend’ was screened at some global events, including the Kortfilmfestivalen-Norwegian Short Film Festival, the Ischia Film Festival in Italy, and the Tryon International Film Festival in the US.
The short flick has received the Long-Short film award at the KinoDrome International Motion Picture and Screenplay Festival in the US, best narrative short film award at the Tryon International Film Festival in the US, best short film award at the Sedicicorto International Film Festival in Italy, and Best Graveyard Shift Short award at the Nashville Film Festival in the US.
Most recently, ‘Weekend’ received the award for the best Asian short film at the 26th ifva Awards in China.
The ÉCU is dedicated to the discovery and advancement of the very best independent filmmakers from around the world.
The festival showcases films that demonstrate quality, innovation, and creativity in both form and content.
The ÉCU, which aims to support independent cinema, is also known as the European version of the Sundance Film Festival.
The 2021 edition of the event took place on April 9-11.
