Ramadan first dessert choices to satisfy sweet tooth

Zoulbia and Bamieh are the first dessert choices in Iran for those enjoying sweet tastes during Islam’s holy month of Ramadan.

After a long day of fasting, many people crave sweets, and Zoulbia and Bamieh are the first choices among Iranians during Islam’s holy month of Ramadan.

Zoulbia and Bamieh are fried desserts soaked in sugar syrup.

The delicious treats are also known in other countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa with different names.

Here are some photos showing the process of making Zoulbia and Bamieh which become so popular in Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the month when the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

During Ramadan, Muslims around the world abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset when they break their fast with the evening meal “iftar”.

The act of fasting is aimed to remind people of the plight of the impoverished people.

During Ramadan, people make more charitable donations and spend more time reading the Quran, and praying.
