Riverside filmfest nominates ‘The Badger’

Iranian feature film ‘The Badger’ has won a nomination at the Riverside International Film Festival (RIFF).

Kazem Mollaee’s latest feature film has been nominated for best film at the 2021 edition of the event.

The movie starring Vishka Asayesh is the story of a 40-year-old woman named Soudeh Sharifzadegan, who has faced a difficult challenge in her life at the time her second marriage nears.

Soudeh is a successful business woman running a money-making bakery. Some days away from her marriage, her kid is kidnapped and for his release she is asked to pay king’s ransom.

In addition to Asayesh, the flick's cast list includes Hassan Majouni, Mehraveh Sharifinia, Behnoush Bakhtiyari, Reza Behboudi and Gohar Kheirandish.

‘The Badger’ has already been screened at a number of global events, including the Shanghai International Film Festival in China and the Austin Film Festival in the US.

Annually since 2002, the RIFF has brought the best in contemporary international and independent films to the southern California.

The RIFF seeks “diverse and challenging films of social upheaval, human conflict, and the boldness of the human spirit,” according to the official website of the event.

The 2021 edition of the event is currently underway April 27-May 1.
