New York fest awards Iranian ‘Inhale’

The 2021 edition of the New York World Film Festival (NYWFF) in the US has awarded Iranian short flick ‘Inhale’.

Directed by Nasser Zamiri, the short film, about a couple who is facing a serious challenge, received the award for Best Narrative Short at the US event.

“Ebrahim's recurring insomnia has caused tension between him and his wife, Marziyeh,” a tagline of the flick reads.

The cast list of the film includes Mehrdad Bakhshi, Neda Asadi, and Ali Yazarlou.

Set to compete at the Roots of Europe International Film Festival in Spain, ‘Inhale’ was presented at several global events, including the Huesca International Film Festival in Spain, the DC Independent Film Festival in the US, the Busan International Short Film Festival in South Korea, the MedFilm Festival in Italy, and the Media Film Festival in the US.

The NYWFF also honored ‘The Romey Lynchings: A Story of Lebanese Immigrants’ by Josh Sabey with Best Documentary Short award and Best Experimental Short award went to ‘Dirt’ by Helanius J. Wilkins and Roma Flowers.

Best Student Film award was presented to ‘Midnight Movie: Magnum Opus’ by Myriam Khammassi and ‘Coming to Light’ by Hector Bell received an Honorable Mention (Student).

Best Micro Short award went to ‘Amparo’s Offerings’ by Leonel Chee and ‘Convergence’ by Samuel G. Davey won an Honorable Mention (Mirco Short).

​Tong Mao received Best First-Time Director award for ‘Shimmer Summer’ and ​ Philippe Vanasse-Paquet was named Best Young Director (18 y.o. and under) for ‘Captive’.

The awarding ceremony of the 2021 edition of the NYWFF was held online on Friday.
