Dead Center to host Iranian ‘Malakout’

Iranian short animation ‘Malakout’ has been selected to compete at the 21st edition of the Dead Center Film Festival (DCFF) in the US.

Directed by Farnoush Abedi, the 11-minute animation tells the story of a pianist who has lost one of his hands and cannot play the piano anymore.

Doctors decide to transplant a dead criminal’s hand to his body. The pianist with his new hand starts killing people.

The animation has participated in several international festivals and grabbed many awards.

Produced at Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center, ‘Malakout’ won the Bronze Jury Award-Best Short Film at the 2020 Celluloid Screams: Sheffield Horror Film Festival in the UK and Best Animated award at the 18th HorrorFest International film festival in the US.

The special awards of the 6th Wolves Independent International Film Festival in Lithuania as well as the 18th biennial Hiroshima International Animation Festival in Japan are also among the latest accolades bagged by the short animated piece.

The DCFF aims to inspire, promote and celebrate creativity by hosting and showcasing films from around the world.

The 2021 edition of the festival is slated for June 10-20.
