Painting expo commemorates Imam Khomeini

An exhibition of paintings titled ‘Mourning for Sun’ has been commemorating the demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic.

Opened on Tuesday at Abolfazl Aali Gallery of the Art Bureau, the expo is showcasing a number of works depicting Imam Khomeini by 15 artists.

Works by Gholmali Taheri are among the highlights of the exhibition that will run until June 20.

In June 2018, he initiated a project to make a collection of the portraits of the poets, musicians and sculptors who lived over the past century.

He also received a lifetime achievement award during the 5th Islamic Revolution Art Week in April 2019.

The exhibition also showcases works by Abdolhamid Qadirian, who was nominated for the Islamic Revolution Artist of the Year for 2021.

It has also put on display some works by Iraj Eskandari, Kamyar Sadeqi, Mostafa Goudarzi, Hassan Razmjou, Morteza Afshari, Ali Sheikhi, Ali Eslami-Moqaddam, Alireza Khaleqdadi, Ahmad Khalilifard, Kazem Chalipa, and Mohammad-Ali Taraqqijah.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Mousavi Khomeini, known as Imam Khomeini, is one of the most influential figures in Iran’s modern history.

He led Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution that resulted in the overthrow of the country’s last Shah.

Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, at the age of 87.
