Mozaffari Caravanserai in Pasargadae

One of the buildings in the historical city of Pasargadae in Iran is Mozaffari Caravanserai dating back to the time of Mozaffarid Dynasty.

There are many caravanserais all around Iran and people are well-familiar with their structures and functions in the past.

We can trace back the origins of Caravanserais to Chaparkhaneh that was a resting place for the messengers who delivered letters or messages by riding horses for long hours.

With the development of road networks and the increase of travelling around the empire, caravanserais were built as a shelter for travelers.

Mozaffari Caravanserai is 700 years old and was built by Shah Shoja, a governor of the Mozaffarid Dynasty.

The building is built using the stones taken from Cyrus the Great’s palace.
