IFFA showing ‘Cinema Shahre Gheseh’

‘Cinema Shahre Gheseh’ (Cinema City) has been competing at the 10th edition of the Iranian Film Festival Australia (IFFA).

The movie went on the Australian screens in Perth and Brisbane, is currently on screen in Sydney, and will be screened in Melbourne in late June.

Directed and written by Keyvan Ali-Mohammadi and Ali-Akbar Heidari, the 100-minute movie is about the love of cinema.

“Davoud is a cinema projectionist who loses his job..... He falls in love with Elham, who is the daughter of a hardcore revolutionary. Her father is strongly opposed to cinema and does not approve their marriage,” a synopsis of the film reads.

The movie, apart from Davoud’s story, is a collection of 120 scenes from the history of Iranian cinema before the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

The cast list of the movie includes Hamed Komeili, Anahita Dargahi, Babak Karimi, Farrokh Nemati, Siavash Mofidi, Roya Mirelmi, Fariba Jeddikar, Hedieh Tehrani, Hamid-Reza Pegah, Ali Owji, and the late Jamshid Mashayekhi.

The movie has so far gone on screen at global and local events such as the 19th Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, the New Delhi Film Festival in India, and the 38th Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

The IFFA helps better familiarize the Australian audience with Iranian culture, featuring Iranian stories in movie theaters of select Australian cities.

The 2021 edition of the event is underway online (due to the COVID pandemic) and in-person on June 24-July 10.
