Iran donates 23k books to Afghanistan

Iran has donated 23,000 books written in Persian from different fields, including literature, political science and sociology, to Afghanistan.

The National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) has provided the Afghanistan Science Academy with 23,000 books in recent days.

Farnaz Mohammadi, a deputy director at NLAI, noted that Iran previously donated 37,000 books to Afghanistan’s libraries in the early 2000s.

She noted that the donations came as the two countries maintain close cultural ties.

During his visit to the NLAI, Gol-Ahmad Anvari, an official at the embassy of Afghanistan in Tehran, appreciated the move, adding that the academy intends to send 1,000 books by Afghan authors to the NLAI in response to the “positive interaction”.

Iran’s Alzahra University also approved a plan to grant scholarships to 50 graduates of Sayed-ul-Shuhada Girls School in Kabul, which was targeted by a terrorist attacks in May, with the aim of promoting the status of Muslim women and supporting girls’ education in Afghanistan..
