The Cannes Film Festival in France has revealed its official poster for the 74th edition.
The organizers of the significant global film event based in France released the poster for the fest’s 2021 edition with Cannes jury president Spike Lee represented as the poster face.
Lee, gazing up pensively at the Cannes palms in the poster is the first Black president to lead the festival jury, and now the first president to ever feature on the poster for this event.
The festival said the selection was due to “curious look he is going to put on the work of his fellow filmmakers who bring us news of the World – of theirs and surely a little bit of ours too,” adding it had selected him as the face of the poster “for his mischievous eye which, despite constantly questioning and incessantly rebelling for nearly four decades, never neglects entertainment.”
‘Malcolm X’ director was slated to head up the jury for the 2020 edition of the festival before it was canceled due to the pandemic. He will be in charge of the Competition jury for the event, which takes place July 6-17, 2021.
Originally the festival to emerge with an in-person event was set to unfold on the French Riviera May 11-22.
