Iranian artisan Gholamreza Shirzad has been creating magnificent walking sticks for many years in his workshop based in Iranian province of Mazandaran.
Shirzad, from the village of Margav (Margab), is the owner of a wood-carving workshop in which he has created beautiful and unique artworks shown in this feature's photos.
The artist has spent well over twenty years, making walking sticks in such a beautiful and elegant way.
The walking sticks are designed based on a special theme taken from the Shahnameh by the Persian poet Ferdowsi as well as the poems of Saadi and Rumi. They are also carved with simple tools alongside the artisan’s personal, artistic touches.
This delicacy requires a highly talented artist who must be a poet as well as a dexterous calligrapher and designer - the one combining all these art forms to create magnificent art.
The artist mainly aims to preserve this valuable art, revealing that flying the flag of this art in the village of Margav is one of his dreams. By so doing, he wants to raise the awareness of people about these beautiful art pieces.
