Cineart secures Farhadi’s film at 2021 Cannes

Benelux distributor Cineart  secures Iranian Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi’s feature ‘A Hero’, competing at the latest edition of Cannes Film Festival.

Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Hero’ is already in Official Selection of 2021 Cannes and Benelux distributor Cineart, which has offices in Brussels and Amsterdam secured a mixture of pre-buys and pick-ups at the event with the director-driven art house title from Iran among the selections.

This comes as Amazon Studios scooped US rights to Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Hero’ in April.

‘A Hero’ is one of the prestigious films in the pipeline for this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film stars well-known Iranian actors such as Mohsen Tanabandeh and Amir Jadidi.

The Persian-language movie marks Farhadi’s return to his homeland, where he previously directed ‘A Separation’ and ‘The Salesman’, both of which won Oscars for best foreign-language film.

“Rahim is in prison because of a debt he was unable to repay. During a two-day leave, he tries to convince his creditor to withdraw his complaint against the payment of part of the sum. But things don't go as planned,” a synopsis for ‘A Hero’ reads.

The world sales of ‘A Hero’ began by Paris-based Memento Films International in February during the European Film Market in Berlin. The French production and sales outfit has collaborated with Farhadi on his last three films.

The 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is underway and wraps up on July 17.
