Cheshmeh Sabz Lake; holy refreshing

The Cheshmeh Sabz (green fountain) Lake near Mashhad was historically believed to have cleansing powers.

The small body of water located in nature of Golmakan town was of high value to the Zoroastrians in Iran.

Yazdgerd the first, one of the rulers of the Sasanid Empire is narrated to have gone to the lake for cure as its water was believed to be holy.

Nowadays, the lake is still popular with the nature-lovers who wish to get out of the hustle and bustle of a big city like Mashhad.

The refreshing daytrip is favorable to fishers as there are various types of fish.

There are also medicinal herbs, such as chamomile that can be picked for future use, growing in the mountainous region.

Getting to the place is not an easy mission to accomplish, though. It takes a 20-kilometer uneven path to get there.
