Flag-changing ritual for Muharram in Lorestan

Imamzadeh Jafar mausoleum located in Iranian province of Lorestan is one of the famous religious sites with a special ritual during the Islamic lunar month of Muharram.

The flag-changing ritual at the mausoleum takes place every year in commemoration of martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam.

Imam Hussein (AS), and his 72 faithful companions were martyred at the Battle of Karbala in Muharram.
