The 21st edition of Festival Internacional de Escuelas de Cine – FIEC (International Film Schools Festival) in Uruguay has honored Iranian short animation ‘Fish’ with a special mention.
Written and directed by Parisa Jafari, the movie was screened in the student film category.
A co-production of the Tehran University of Art and Documentary and Experimental Film Center, ‘Fish’ is about a man who decides to alleviate his fear.
The FIEC jury published a statement calling the movie “a short that manages to connect through the sensory, whose animation uses its impurities and freedoms to generate a raw and overwhelming experience.”
‘Cucaracha’ by Agustin Tourino from the National University of Córdoba in Argentina won the first prize in the section.
The award for best film in the Fiction Category went to ‘Lumbalu: Agonia’ by Jorge Aldair Perez from Magdalena University in Santa Marta, Colombia.
‘Bye Little Block!’ by Eva Darabos from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Hungary won the award for the best-animated film in the professional section of the event.
‘Never Never’ by Violena Ampudia from the International Film and TV School (EICTV) in Cuba received the award for best non-fiction film.
The award for best fiction film was presented to ‘Tropicana’ made by Francesco Romano from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Italy.
Organized by the Uruguayan Film School (ECU) and Cinemateca Uruguaya, the 2021 edition of the FIEC took place in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo on August 18-21.
