Bangladeshi ambassador visits Iran’s Taj Mahal

Gousal Azam Sarker, Dhaka’s ambassador to Tehran, has visited the UNESCO-designated Soltaniyeh Dome, world's largest brick dome, in northwestern Zanjan Province in Iran.

It was for the second time that Sarker and his wife visited the 14th-century Soltaniyeh Dome, which is known to be a masterpiece of Islamic architecture sometimes referred to as Iran’s Taj Mahal.

Upon seeing this monument, the ambassador expressed his amazement at its extraordinary grandeur and architecture.

Last August, Sarker traveled to Zanjan. Praising the province for its extraordinarily beautiful tourist sites, he proposed joint ventures in the field of tourism and handicraft exports.

The historical Edifice of Rakhtshooy Khaneh and Zolfaqari Archaeological Museum, which is famed for showcasing some ancient salt men and their belongings, were two other places that the envoy paid a visit to.

Locally known as Gonbad-e Soltaniyeh, the monument is highly recognized as an architectural masterpiece particularly due to its innovative double-shelled dome and elaborate interior decoration.

It is believed by the UN cultural bodies that Soltaniyeh Dome is “an essential link and key monument in the development of Islamic architecture in central and western Asia. The dome is the earliest extant example of its type in the country and became an important reference for the later development of the Islamic dome.”
