Yazd, Iran’s globally known earthen city

The world-famous, historical earthen city of Yazd is located in central Iran.

The city is a living testament to how people survived in the desert using limited resources. An underground water supply system, known as qanat, supplies water to the city.

Yazd represents the interaction between man and nature in a desert setting as an exceptional example of a traditional human settlement.

UNESCO has inscribed the city among the world's oldest cities on its World Heritage list.

The geographical location of Yazd has protected the city from war throughout history. It is a place of peace and tranquility where visitors feel at ease.

One intriguing fact about the houses there is that some are still in use by people despite dating back to the Ilkhanate dynasty that ruled over Iran in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
