‘White Clad’ to present Iran at 2022 Oscars

Iranian short flick ‘White Clad’ is to make Iran's representative at the 94th Academy Awards slated for March 2022.

Reza Fahimi’s short film tells the story of an old woman who gives some cheese to Ahmad, a ten-year-old boy, and asks him to give it to his father who is a teacher in the village, so the father can mediate and stop the execution of her young son.

'White Clad' is the recipient of the grand prize of the international competition of the 37th Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF).

The short has already participated in the 2021 Short Shorts Film Festival in Japan and the 43rd Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France.

History of Iran's presence in the most-watched cinema event of the year- Academy Awards - goes back to 1977.

Since then, three Iranian films have been nominated for Oscars and two have won the precious award.

First, ‘Children of Heaven’ by acclaimed Iranian director Majid Majidi was nominated for Oscars in 1998; and later two movies directed by Asghar Farhadi, namely ‘A Separation’ and ‘The Salesman’, won the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film in 2011 and 2016, respectively.

Also, ‘Finding Farideh’ by Azadeh Mousavi and Kourosh Ataei was the first Iranian documentary introduced to the 2020 Academy Awards.

Majidi’s ‘Sun Children’ was also among the 15 international short films introduced to the 93rd Oscars ceremony in 2021.
