Poonak Deh, an ancient neighborhood in old Tehran

Poonak Deh is one of Tehran’s oldest neighborhoods that has a modern view today.

However, the old history can be seen paradoxically in some streets, including ancient buildings and local people.

The neighborhood, which is said to have a thousand years of history, used to be full of pennyroyal fields and because of the abundance of mint (Pooneh in Persian) growing in it, the neighborhood is called Poonak.

Poonak, which was separated from Tehran in the past, is located in the northwestern part of the city; and with the passage of time and urban development, it found common borders with neighborhoods in Tehran, currently being a modern neighborhood in the heart of the capital.

The neighborhood was famous for green and vast gardens that are now replaced by high modern buildings.
