Outsider Pictures buys new Abyar movie

A sales and distribution company named Outsider Pictures, releasing films in the US and Canada, has purchased the rights to the latest movie by celebrated Iranian filmmaker Narges Abyar.

Local media announced on Tuesday the US company bought the rights of ‘Pinto’ directed by Narges Abyar and produced by her husband Mohammad-Hossein Qasemi.

The film, which is about violence against women, is starring some famous Iranian actors, including Bahram Radan, Gelareh Abbasi, Elnaz Shakerdoust and Houtan Shakiba.

‘Pinto’ (AKA ‘The Piebald’) was premiered at the 39th edition of the Fajr Film Festival (FFF) in Iran, where it won the best audience choice award and Abbasi received the award for best actress in a supporting role.

Iman Omidvari received the best makeup artist award Farid Nazer-Fasihi won the award for best computerized special effects supervisor at the 39th FFF.

“I personally believe that women have faced injustices all around the world for many years, and this can be perceived by the unequal number of women’s positions in social and macro-political management,” Abyar has said in her latest interview with Golden Globes.

“Men were the ones who have always occupied managerial positions and have limited women’s authority in economic and cultural arenas. Although I witness this inequality in the world and cannot deny it, it also exists between men and women in my own country due to its culture and traditional infrastructure,” she added.

“Women often need multiple times more effort than men to prove themselves and attract the trust and attention of others, and in the end, they may even fail. My latest film, ‘Pinto’, addresses this issue,” Abyar also noted.

Abyar is currently making a series about the celebrated Iranian female writer Simin Daneshvar and working on a joint project about the Silk Road in China.
