Shawkatiyeh historical school in photos

Visiting historical places can take us on a journey to the past and give us a hint about how the life was back then.

Today, we present some photos that would help to explore one of the historical sites in Birjand, the capital of the Iranian province of South Khorasan.

Shawkatiyeh School was founded about 130 years ago by Mohammad Ebrahim Alam, (aka Shawkat al-Molk), who was a regional ruler of the time.

The structure was originally established as a Hussainiyah (a religious center) and was turned into a school 13 years later.

It has two entrances which show the magnificence of the Iranian architecture.

Shawkatiyeh School has been inscribed on Iran’s National Heritage List.
