Iran actress stars in wordless short

Famed Iranian actress Mahtab Keramati stars in wordless short film ‘The Sounds Beyond Silence’.

The short directed by Azar Tajali follows a woman suffering from insomnia that leads to insanity.

"It is one of the well-made Iranian shorts with a completely classic structure. In contrast to the mainstream short films, which generally focus on form rather than storytelling, ‘The Sounds Beyond Silence’ has a simple, two-line story that has no turning point in its script and seems completely minimalist. The story of the film, which starts at midnight and ends in the morning, is about an insomniac woman with every little sound disturbing her peace,” a review of the short reads.

"The key point of the story ... is this simple and trivial issue that can easily drive a sleepless person crazy. On the other hand, the audience from any class and age group identifies with the story and its heroines,” the review notes.

The short film is being screening in selected movies theaters in Iran.

Keramati has appeared in series such as 'Saint Mary' and 'The Men of Angelos'. She won a Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for '20' (2008).

In 2006, she was appointed as UNICEF National Ambassador in Iran.
