UAE to host ‘Sweet Taste of Darkness’

The Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFF) in the UAE has been set to host Iranian short flick ‘Sweet Taste of Darkness’.

Directed by Mitra Raees-Mohammadi, the 20-minute film will go on screen at the 8th edition of the Emirati event on October 13.

‘Sweet Taste of Darkness’ focuses on a boy who is fascinated by darkness. He attempts to train himself to write with eyes closed, climb up the stairs, or cross the streets. This labels him as a troublemaker at school as other kids try to follow his actions.

At home, his mother and father are dealing with their marriage troubles. In the end, we learn why the boy might be fascinated by darkness. His father is blind, and he wants to show anyone can achieve anything even if they are blind.

‘Sweet Taste of Darkness’ has so far gone on screen at global events such as the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival in the US and the Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival in South Korea.

The SIFF was launched in 2013. It is the first children & youth film festival in the UAE. It is a project of FUNN, an organization established by the Sharjah government.

The festival is dedicated to enhance the media literacy of children and youth, foster children’s & youth’s creativity and showcase the very best in filmmaking for, by and about children and young people.

The 2021 edition of the SIFF has been slated for October 10-15, in Sharjah, the UAE.
