Hafez’s real name is Shamseddin Mohammad. He was born in the southern city of Shiraz.

Well-known writers and scholars across the world, including English poet and writer Edward FitzGerald, highly revered Hafez.

National Day of Hafez is observed on the 20th day of the Persian calendar month of Mehr, which falls on Tuesday this year.
