Iranian film scholar picked for Kenya’s sports fest

Iranian film scholar Leila Hosseini has been selected as the jury of the international competition section of the 4th Kenya International Sports Film Festival (KISFF).

Hosseini will be accompanied by John Sibi-Okumu (Kenyan film critic), Amit Tiga (Indian filmmaker), Bijoy Banerjee (Indian producer), and Taylor Sharp (American producer and director).

Since 200, Hosseini has been working for the international section of Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC).

She, who is also the translator of several film scripts, is a festival programmer for DEFC which organizes Cinema verite, Iran’s International Documentary Film Festival. Cinéma Vérité is the pioneering Iranian entity that produces documentaries, animations, experimental and feature films as one of the most notable production companies in the Middle East.

Hosseini was previously a member of the jury of the Polish Against Gravity Film Festivals, the 2021 Apricot Tree Ujan International Documentary Film Festival in Armenia as well as the 2019 Millenium International Documentary Film Festival in Belgium.

A total of forty documentaries and movies will be screened at the upcoming edition of the KISFF.

The Kenya International Sports Film Festival is a depiction of the connection that exists between sports and films.

The KISFF is set to be held virtually on October 28-31 in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
