German fest nominates Iranian film ‘Sangbal’

Iranian short film ‘Sangbal’ has won a nomination for the Grand Prix at the 22nd Up and Coming International Film Festival Hanover in Germany.

Written and directed by Amin Sahraee, ‘Sangbal’ is the only representative of Iran at the festival, which was picked from among some 3,300 films.

It will compete with films from 32 countries including the US, Belgium, Canada, and Russia.

‘Sangbal’ is the story of “an allusion to human beings whose wings were clipped in childhood and who have no way to fly,” published by the event’s website as a synopsis to the film.

Afshin Ghiyasi, Parastou Qaed-Rahmat, Hassan Khan-Hosseini and Rojina Mir-Seyyed are among the cast members of the film.

The film has already been awarded at the Fajr International Film Festival in Iran.

The Up and Coming International Film Festival Hanover is a discovery festival for young talents up to the age of 27 years from Germany and all over the world.

It functions under the motto “Just be yourself. Trust yourself. Have your own visions and create without limitations.”

The festival will take place online on November 22-28, 2021.
