Iranian female author wins LiBeratur Prize

Iranian author Fariba Vafi wins the LiBeratur Prize given to female writers from Africa, Asia and Latin America for her second novel ‘Tarlan’.

The top literary honor is presented by the Litprom Association in Frankfurt, organizers announced on Sunday.

Other nominees for the top German award hail from South Korea, Kenya, Lebanon, India Singapore, Haiti and Swaziland.

‘Tarlan’ tells the tale of a young girl who aspires to become a writer. She forgoes a literary career, however, and chooses to go to a police academy.

The book has been translated into German by Jutta Himmelreich and published by Sujet Publications in Germany in 2015.

The LiBeratur Prize is an annual award which is intended to spread awareness about literary developments and trends in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The winner will receive a cash prize and an invitation to the Frankfurt Book Fair.
