The International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (DOK Leipzig) in Germany has honored Iranian director Sarvnaz Alambeigi.
‘Broken Flower’ by Alambeigi received Saxon Award for Best Documentary Project by a Female Director at the 64th edition of the German event.
‘Broken Flower’ also won the Current Time TV Award at the DOK Co-Pro Market.
With the project, Alambeigi portrays a young woman from Afghanistan who, against the resistance of her patriarchal father, wants to become a Muay Thai athlete.
The DOK Leipzig announced the winners by awarding the Chinese documentary ‘Father’ by Wei Deng the Golden Dove in the international competition long documentary and animated film.
Written and directed by Mahboubeh Kalaee, Iranian animation ‘Fourth Wall’ won the award for best animation “Mephisto 97.6 Award” at the German event.
The DOK Leipzig is one of the leading festivals for documentary and animated film. The festival, being the first in the world to combine these two genres, is built on more than 60 years of history and tradition.

The 64th edition of the DOK Leipzig was held October 25-October 31, 2021.
The 62nd edition of the event honored Iranian short titles ‘Asho’ and ‘Am I a Wolf?’ in 2019.
