Iran names newly-identified fish after Ali Daee

A new species of fish discovered by an Iranian-German research team has been named after former professional Iranian footballer and top goal scorer Ali Daee.

The decision was made as a token of appreciation for Daee’s humanitarian activities after the 2018 earthquake in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah, which is the sole habitat of the fish.

The new species of fish, which has been introduced to the world of science for the first time, was discovered from the Sisoridae family in Iran.

Some new fish species have already been discovered and named after such great figures in the biological sciences and great poets as Ferdowsi, Hafez, Saadi, Sheikh Baha’i, Raees Ali Delvari, Amir Kabir, Samiei, and Mohammad Reza Shajarian.

After Portugal's forward Cristiano Ronaldo, Ali Daee stands the highest goal scorer of the world with some 109 goals for Iran.

He represented Iran national football team from 1993 to 2006.
