Loft filmfest screening Iran’s ‘A Hero’

Iranian feature ‘A Hero’ by internationally acclaimed director Asghar Farhadi has made its way to the Loft Film Fest in the US.

According to the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, the movie is taking part in the 11th edition of the American event.

A Hero’ is the sole representative of Iran at the Loft’s features sections.

Farhadi's feature is about Rahim, a divorced man who has been imprisoned due to unpaid debt. During a two-day leave, Rahim tries to prove that he is a good person.

The movie is starring Amir Jadidi, Mohsen Tanabandeh, and Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee.

‘A Hero’ was awarded the Grand Prix at the 74th Cannes Film Festival in France. The prize was shared by Juho Kuosmanen’s ‘Compartment No.6’.

It is also selected as Iran’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2022 edition of the Academy Awards.

In the Loft’s documentary section, Iranian-German short film ‘Black Canvas’ by Shirin Ekhlasi is taking part.

The Loft Film Fest is dedicated to “showcasing the best independent, foreign and classic films, as well as celebrating the work of established and emerging directors, writers, producers and actors”, an online submission platform reads.

The festival “aims not only to expand the audience for cinema that challenges, inspires and entertains, but also to honor those artists whose talent and passion bring that cinema to life”.

The 11th Loft Film Fest opened on Wednesday and will run until November 18.
