‘Dying in Holy Water’ wins in Sweden

Iranian film ‘Dying in Holy Water’ has won the Best Film award at the 12th edition of the SAMA International Film Festival in Sweden.

Produced by Jamshid Mahmoudi and directed by Navid Mahmoudi, the film narrates the story of some young Afghans who travel from Iran to Europe.

A synopsis of the film reads, “Rona: Hamed, don’t fear the sea. If you are afraid of anything, it’s more likely that it will happen to you.

Hamed: I don’t.”

The cast of the film includes Ali Shademan, Neda Jebraeeli, Matin Heidarnia, Sadaf Asgari, Sogol Khaliq, Alireza Ara, Amir-Reza Ranjbaran, Khayyam Vaqar, Peyman Moqaddami, Mahtab Jafari, Farid Eshaqi, Mahya Rezaee, Fatemeh Mirzaee, and Alireza Mehran.

The movie was screened at the 38th Fajr Film Festival, winning nominations in two categories of the best actor and actress in a leading role.

The SAMA Film Festival aims to present works of Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikestan, Turkey, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries.

The event was held on November 26-28, 2021.
