Journey to Iran’s land of Lilliputians

Iranian village of Makhounik in South Khorasan Province is the land of Lilliputians with one-of-a-kind traditions and beliefs.

On the trip to the Village, the very first noticeable thing is the local’s short height, which has caused the place to become known as Lilliput in Iran.

The residents are in fact some Afghan immigrants, who started living in the area several centuries ago.

The people, being seriously pious, only prefer their kids to learn the teachings of Islam; therefore, an Institute of Quranic Sciences can be found there.

Besides the abovementioned features and the fact that the village is remote from other regions, the villagers have some unique traditions and weird customs.

The villagers used to live in the mountains so they did not construct houses. Later, however, when they started building houses, their constructions are small with no windows.
