Iranian films win in Emirates

Iranian short films ‘Slaughter’, ‘Silence’ and ‘Song Sparrow’ have won 11 awards at the 7th edition of the Emirates Short Film Festival (ESFF).

Co-directed by Ako Zand-Karimi and Saman Hosseinpour,’Slaughter’ grabbed 3 awards at the festival.

Best Actress award of the ESFF went to Shafi Amini, Best Script/Story award went to Ako Zandkarimi Saman Hosseinpour while Ayoub Sheikhahmadi took home the Best Costume award.

The flick narrates the story of a family that has to sell its only cow to live through a tough winter.

The family’s son, however, is not happy with the deal, so he lets the cow escape.

Directed by Vahab Qaeeni, ‘Silence’ also garnered 3 awards at the Emirates festival.

Amir Jahani received Best Actor award. Erfan Yazdi won Best Sound award, and Alireza Barazandeh received Best Cinematography award at the festival.

Synopsis to the ‘Silence’ reads, “The narrative is about a worker’s life with a lot of problems, he is on the verge of the dismissal”.

‘Song Sparrow’ receives award at Emirates Short Film Festival

Established in 2013, the ESFF is an annual short filmmaking competition event that brings together films from all over the world.

The selected films should “address some of the most current critical, social and environmental challenges and also generate reasons for hope and optimism.”

The 2021 ESFF took place on December 13-15 in Dubai, UAE with the awards ceremony held on 17 Dec.
