Iran’s ‘A Poetess’ taking part in IWFFT

Iranian movie ‘A Poetess’ has been competing at the International Women Filmmakers Festival Turkey (IWFFT).

Made by Sahra Fathi and Saeed Dashti, the movie is participating in the fifth edition of the IWFFT which is underway in Izmir.

‘A Poetess’ is about Sara who is hesitant to choose between aborting her child and immigrate, or stay in her country. Considering arguments and issues with her husband and by realizing the truth about him, she makes up her mind and plans for a new future.

The cast list of the movie includes Amir Jafari, Linda Kiani, Nima Shabannejad, and the director Fathi.

‘A Poetess’ won the award for the best foreign film at the California Women’s Film Festival in the US.

Earlier reports said Iranian short films ‘Pass’ by Elika Abdollahi, ‘Emergency’ directed by Maryam Esmikhani, and 'Good Girl' written and directed by Raheleh Karami are also taking part in the IWFFT.

The IWFFT aims to “make woman film directors and their movies recognizable by bringing woman filmmakers and other female cinema industry workers together”, and to “support and encourage creative women by creating new networks & perspectives, finding possible funds, and making space for the new coming filmmakers’ generation”, the website of the event reads.

The 5th edition of the IWFFT kicked off on February 27 and will run until March 8.
