Filipino fest awards Iran’s ‘Zaferanieh near Sunset’

Iranian feature film ‘Zaferanieh near Sunset’ has grabbed an award at the 7th Pambujan International Film Festival in the Philippines.

Mohammad Kharratzadeh’s ‘Zaferanieh, near Sunset’, a drama on drug addiction, received one of the two runner-up best film awards in the competition for the full-length narrative films category of the Pambujan filmfest.

Several other movies by Iranian filmmakers were also honored with awards in the short competition of the festival.

Produced by Adnan Ka Pousian, the flick is filmed in one long, bravura shot, featuring Nasim Adabi, Iman Safa, Hamidreza Hedayai and Saber Naseri.

The First Screen Film Distribution, headed by Soulmaz Etemad, is in charge of the international distribution of the film.

‘Zaferanieh, near Sunset’ was previously screened at the 3rd annual Women’s Cinema & Arts International Film Festival (WCAIFF) in India.

‘Zaferanieh near Sunset’ went also on screen at the 2022 Literature Illusion Film Frames Television and Theatre (LIFFT) India Awards where it brought the best actress award for Nazanin Karimi.

Launched in 2009, the Pambujan International Film Festival helps “encourage and educate the community to unleash their potential in art.”

The event runs under the motto ‘Dare to Dream’, pushing the people to develop “their artistry instead of just mere observers”.

The 2022 edition of the festival was held in Pambujan, Eastern Philippines on January 21.
