‘Descendants’ wins award at Philippines film festival

Iranian film ‘The Descendants’ has succeeded to receive an award at the 7th Pambujan International Film Festival in the Philippines.

‘The Descendants’, directed by Yaser Talebi, won the best film award at the competition for the full-length narrative films award of the Pambujan fest last Friday.

‘The Descendants’ narrates the story of Jacob’s family who are worried about their son, Farrokh, who left Iran to continue his studies in Greece but he has not been in touch with them for a long time.

Farrokh’s loss has driven his wife to despair so much so that she gets physically disabled. So Jacob departs on an odyssey to look for his son. But he discovers the condition of so many immigrants for whom life is different than what they had imagined.

Produced by Mitra Rouhimanesh, the flick is the winner of the best film award at the 2017 edition of the Formosa Festival of International Filmmaker Awards (FFIFA) in Taiwan.

‘The Descendants’, made in 2015, was previously screened at the 2017 Longleaf Film Festival in Raleigh in the U.S. state of North Carolina where it grabbed the Yonder Award of the festival.

Other accolades took home by Talebi also include: Best Feature Film and Best Director Awards at the 6th Urban International Film Festival in Iran, Best Feature Film Award at the Pembroke Taparelli Arts and Film Festival and the Best Feature Film Award at the JP2 Inter-Faith Film Festival's Reel Rose Awards, both in the US.

According to earlier reports by iFilm English website, Mohammad Kharratzadeh’s ‘Zaferanieh, near Sunset’ was also one of the two runner-up best film awards winner in the same category.

Launched in 2009, the Pambujan International Film Festival helps “encourage and educate the community to unleash their potential in art.”

The event runs under the motto ‘Dare to Dream’, pushing the people to develop “their artistry instead of just mere observers”.

The 2022 edition of the festival was held in Pambujan, Eastern Philippines on January 21.
