Directed by Vahid Aalam, the 15-minute animation is among the competition titles at the 17th edition of the Greek event.
According to the director, he was inspired by the idea for ‘Dark Room’ while reading a book by Iranian author Sadeq Hedayat.
It tells the story of a person who has been cast away by the society, following which he decides to go to a distant place as he prefers to be isolated rather than living among people, whose manners are not favorable to the man.
A brief synopsis for the film reads, “The story is about a man, maybe two men. They met each other on the way to Khansar. The light of dark side/ is flowing in my mind/ unspoken words/ my thoughts are in motion on a flat line /and I’m chasing them/ some old books/an eroded pencil / sweaty hands/ crumpled papers”.
‘Dark Room’ has already participated in the Rome International Movie Awards.
The Athens ANIMFEST is an annual international animation film festival in Greece. The event aims to give chance to Greek and foreign artists to show their talent and restless spirit.
This year’s edition of the fest, also set to host Iran’s ‘The Fourth Wall’ by Maedeh Kalaee, ‘Eat, Ate…’ by Shidokht Dezham Shahabi and Mona Shahi’s ‘Red Fire’, is slated for March 17-20.
