Iran’s leading artists and literati have received awards at the first edition of the Nezami international prize in Tehran.

Calligrapher Keykhosrow Khoroush, miniaturist Mohammad-Baqer Aqamiri, stage director Behrouz Qaribpour, and family of the late musician Hossein Dehlavi were among the award winners.

Some of the awards went to scholars and researchers Mohammad Roshan-Dashti, Mehdi Mohabbati, and Abdolmajid Arfaee, singers Saeed Shafieeoun and Kourosh Asadpour, as well as musician Hatam Asgari-Farahi.

The prominent Iranian singer Shahram Nazeri received an honorary award.

Organized by the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, the prize aims to honor studies and works that throw spotlight on the significance and impacts of the Persian poet Nemazi Ganjavi on the Persian language, literature, art, and culture.

The prize is scheduled to be presented annually on Nezami Day, which falls on March 12 this year.

Earlier, Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance announced the plan to commemorate Nezami Ganjavi during a weeklong program in March.

The program, a hybrid event with virtual and live meetings, begins on March 12.
