The ritual known as "Reading Nowruz" is held one week before the Persian New Year in Gilan Province.

The symbolic ritual is attended by children as well as the residents of northern Iran.

This year, the Persian New Year is celebrated on March 20 in Iran as well as in a number of other countries. The first day of the Persian calendar year, known as Nowruz, coincides with the beginning of the spring equinox in Iran.
