‘The Boot’ to compete at Animayo fest

Iranian short animation ‘The Boot’ has found a screening slot at the 2022 official selection of the Animayo: The International Film Festival of Animation, Visual Effects and Video Games in Spain.

Seyyed Mohsen Pourmohseni Shakib’s animation will be competing at the upcoming edition of the Animayo fest which is slated for May 3-7, 2022.

A brief synopsis of the animation says, “A bird in a war-torn city, where there is nothing left but dead bodies, seeks food to feed its baby birds..."

‘The Boot’ has recently participated in the Oscar-qualifying El Festival Internacional de Cine de Lebu (FICIL) in Chile.

Following his first shot animation ‘White Paper’ which participated at the Oscar-qualifying Guadalajara Int’l Film Festival in Mexico as well as the BAFTA qualifying Frameline: San Francisco Int’l Film Festival in the US, Shakib made his second short animation ‘Game Over’ in 2012 about children and peace.

‘Game Over’ was screened at some 28 global film festivals, including the Academy Award-qualifying Int’l Animation Festival Chilemonos in Chile, the Seoul Int’l Youth Film Festival in South Korea and the Montréal Int’l Children's Film Festival in Canada.

‘Oracle’ was Shakib’s third short animation about life and death which was made in 2016 and was screened at 12 film festivals such as the Bucheon Int’l Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea, the Cinema City Festival in Serbia and the Linoleum Int’l Contemporary Animation Festival in Ukraine.

In 2018, he made his fourth short animation ‘Ballsy: Story of a Revolution’ which was about fighting against a tyrant.

‘Ballsy: Story of a Revolution’ went on screen at the World Festival Of Animated Film, Varna in Bulgaria, the Tehran Int’l Short Film Festival in Iran and the Oscar-qualifying St. Louis Int’l Film Festival in the USA.

Born in 2006, the Animayo festival is the first and only animated Spanish festival being declared ‘Qualifying Festival’ for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Oscars Academy Awards.

The winners of Animayo will be eligible for consideration in the Animated Short Film category of the Academy Awards.
