Written and directed by Mosayyeb Hanaee, the short flick will be screened next week at the PJIFF, which is currently underway.
The film is about a woman who has crossed into Iran along with other Afghans as they want to illegally travel to Turkey.
The woman, who is accompanied by her child, can’t take her child with her as she can’t afford the smuggling fees.
The film’s cast list includes Shahbanou Mohammadi, Iraj Tadayyon, Reza Ahmadi, and Narges Hezareh.
‘Before Darkness’ was awarded at the 35th Tehran International Short Film Festival in Iran.
The PJIFF promotes “inclusion, diversity, and women empowerment”; educates people of all ages about filmmaking; and encourages everyone to “find their voice through film”, an online submission platform reads.
The 15th edition of the festival opened on Wednesday and will run until April 13.
