US awards Iran film

Iranian feature ‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’ has been awarded at the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival (PJIFF) in the US.

Directed by Javad Daraee, the film won the best feature film award at the Iran section of the 15th edition of the event.

‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’ is about Shadi. When her parents were accused of murdering a girl and thus killed by the villagers, Shadi was only a little girl.

She was, then, adopted by her uncle and grew up. Shadi must now face the problems that the village residents have caused.

The cast list includes Fariba Talebi, Saeed Ahmadi, Fariba Torkashvand, Farahnaz Manafi-Zaher, Foujan Ahmadi, Mahshid Khosravi, Iman Sarraf, Arezou Balali-Dehkordi, Sarina Yousefi, Mohammad Eqlimi, Amir-Abbas Ghazaee, and Avin Kouhzadeh.

‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’ has already been screened at a number of global events, including the International film festival Cyprus, the Efebo d’oro International Cinema and Narrative Award in Italy, and the Cine No Visto Film Festival in Spain, where it won the best feature film and best screenplay awards.

The PJIFF promotes “inclusion, diversity, and women empowerment”; educates people of all ages about filmmaking; and encourages everyone to “find their voice through film”, an online submission platform reads.

The 15th edition of the festival took place in early April in California.
