‘Nahid’ to vie at Zanzibar filmfest

The 25th edition of the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) in Tanzania has been slated to host Iranian short flick ‘Nahid’.

Directed by Samad Alizadeh, the short film will be shown at the main competition section of the Tanzanian event.

‘Nahid’ narrates the story of a woman who following her mother’s death publishes her photo in the funeral leaflet, which leads to the wrath of her family.

Living in a patriarchal and traditionalist society, her action causes a tumult in her family and leads to clashes between Nahid and her brother.

Laya Mirnasiri, Firouz Aqeli, Shahrzad Shakourian, Mehdi Heidari, Nasrin Khorram, and Parisa Sohrabi are some of the flick’s cast members.

The Media Kiasat film distributing company is in charge of the film’s international release.

The film was premiered at the Tehran International Film Festival where it won the best screenplay award.

‘Nahid’ has been awarded the best film at the Fribourg International Film Festival.

According to the official website of the event, the ZIFF is an annual filmfest which accepts “some of the most captivating and cutting-edge cinema from Africa and beyond… from world-premiers to local shorts”.

The 25th ZIFF is slated for June 16-26, 2022 in Stonetown, Zanzibar.
