Espahbod Khorshid Cave is a historical site in Iran’s northern province of Mazandaran.

Espahbod Khorshid Cave dates back to some 300 million years. It lies in Savadkuh County of Mazandaran.

The cave’s mouth is one of the largest in the world. The interior of the cave has an oval shape.

Espahbod Khorshid Cave is inscribed on Iran’s national heritage list.

During the Sassanid era, more than 1,300 years ago, a seven-storey unique castle was built inside the cave, thus it has been known as one of the oldest and largest cave-fortresses in the world.
